Changes to Statutory Disciplinary and Grievance Procedures

The Government is keen to promote alternative ways of settling workplace disputes.

Since October 2004, employers and employees have been required to follow statutory minimum procedures to make sure that disputes are discussed at work. Not only has this reduced costs and the stress to those involved but the new procedures have also relieved pressure on the employment tribunal system.

The Department of Trade and Industry has a website dedicated to the topic which contains a summary of the proposed changes, including a PowerPoint presentation training package.
