Vacation Scheme

Vacation Scheme Programme

In order to apply for a training contract with Kerman & Co, you will first need to take part in our Vacation Scheme Programme. By taking part in the programme, you will have the opportunity to come and meet us in person and see what it would be like to train and work here during your training contract.

Vacation Scheme Programme Structure

The structure of our scheme is fairly straightforward. During June and July each year, we run two separate week-long Vacation Scheme Programmes. Each programme is attended by four to five potential new trainee solicitors. During the week-long programme, candidates will be given the opportunity to spend time in each of our core departments: Corporate, Commercial, Employment, Real Estate and Dispute Resolution. There, they will get a first hand insight into the work the department does and have an opportunity to interact with lawyers, fee earners and support staff. Candidates will have the opportunity to see how we do things, ask questions and really get a feel for whether the firm is a good fit for them.

During the week, there will also be a series of informal lunches and evenings out with our current trainees, fee-earners and other members of our team. At the end of the week, each candidate will have a formal interview with a partner and a member of our recruitment team.

Applying for a Place on the Vacation Scheme

In order to apply for a position on our Vacation Scheme Programme, you will need to simultaneously apply for a Training Contract - as both go hand in hand.

Applications for the 2020 Vacation Scheme Programme will open from 28 February 2020 until 14 April 2020. Participants who take part in this programme will be aiming to secure a training contract for either the 2020 or 2021 intake.

Like many firms, places on our Vacation Scheme Programme are very much sought after. As such, it is recommended that you apply for a place at your earliest opportunity. Remember, not all applicants will be invited to participate on the programme.

To apply for a place on our Vacation Scheme Programmes and to simultaneously apply for a Training Contract, please send an up to date CV to [email protected] with a covering letter explaining your reasons for applying for a place on the Vacation Scheme and a Training Contract with Kerman & Co.

Are You What We’re Looking For?

When we recruit trainees, we are in reality looking to recruit the next generation of partners in our firm. Many of the current partners trained in the firm and we hope to continue that tradition.

So, what do we look for in potential trainees?

In addition to a strong academic background (good A- levels or equivalent, a 2.1 degree or above and successful completion of the Legal Practice Course with at least a commendation or above), we are looking for commitment, drive, initiative, common sense, the ability to take on responsibility and the ability to work as part of a team. Equally, we look for people who are approachable and who have the skill set to develop and maintain excellent working relationships with our employees and clients alike.

As well as looking at academics, we like to see people who achieve in other areas of their lives whether in sports, hobbies, charity work or other areas of personal interest. The ability to speak a foreign language is also well regarded.

We accept trainee solicitors from all kinds of backgrounds. So whether you are a law or non-law student, a graduate, mature student, international student or someone who wants to change career, we would like to hear from you.
