Kerman & Co LLP were delighted to be asked to contribute towards a new publication titled ‘Football and the Law’ which is the first comprehensive review of the law in England and Wales in relation to football, including the main regulatory and commercial aspects of the sport. Described as having contributions from more than 50 of the leading experts in the field, Zane Shihab, Nick Bitel and James Thorndyke from our sports team provided their expertise by writing a chapter on ‘Ticketing Issues in Football’ which includes a consideration of the proprietary rights in a sports event, as well as the statutory laws and civil remedies available to football clubs to enable them to regulate the distribution and transfer of tickets to a football match played in England and Wales.
Our experienced team has been at the forefront of the development of sports law and is recognised as being one of the leading firms in the law of ticketing, which underpins the funding of sports events. We have been actively involved on developing legislation targeting ticket touting for example and we act for the leading governing bodies and events in football, rugby, horse racing, cricket and tennis on ticketing related matters. Our wealth of experience provides additional intelligence for our clients in their campaigns against ticket touts and unofficial hospitality and ticket agencies.
The Football and the Law book also features chapters discussing a wide range of issues including: European law in football, player transfers, immigration issues, third party investment, international disputes and the Court of Arbitration for Sport, as well as financial regulation and financial fair play.
